Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky

PosadLavraSergiev Posad used to be the central monastery of the Russian Orthodox church so called Trinity-Serviev Lavra. This place is considered to be essential for pilgrims visiting. Trinity-Sergiev Lavra is a unique ensemble which unites architectural styles of the several epochs. The major cathedral of the Lavra - Trinity cathedral is remarkable for its frescoes created by Andrey Rublev. Pereslavl-Zalessky is a quiet provincial town with its history dated back to XII century. This town is the birth place of Alexander Nevsky. He was baptized in the small church which is extant and located onto the central alley of the town. This one day Golden Ring tour is recomended for those who does not have much time, but still would like to get familiar with one of the pivotal sight

    Pereslavl-Zalessky

    The city was founded in 1152 by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky 5 years later than Moscow. In medieval times its fort was besieged and the city was ransacked by Mongols and later on by Polish-Lithuanian armies. Next to the city is Plescheyevo lake, the cradle of Russian Fleet, where young tsar Peter I did his marine military excersises. Besides, the site is a birthplace of Alexander Nevsky.
